The weather was a bit inclement but it didn't deter a solid turnout from PLCC for the C grade group at todays race. Clearly other clubs are not quite so hardy, so overall C grade numbers were down and after a bit of encouragement from the General and myself, the RD agreed to combine the two C grade races into one. This was great as it meant we could all ride together. Also there was an added bonus because Renzo joined us today so we all got to ride with her. Jonathan Lam is sitting 2nd overall in the series for C grade, so he was our protected rider.
Early in the first lap the General and Renzo almost slipped away with 3 others but they were dragged back in by one of the race leaders. The remainder of the race was relatively uneventful with the General covering all moves at the front. Unfortunately Chris Lam dropped his chain which meant he got caught off the back and
whilst he did re-join, he spent a few too many cookies. The plan was to form a train and move to the front and the last hill before the sweeping descent past the finish line and up to the turnaround point. As we moved to the front, there was a couple of riders who made attempts at a breakaway but the General, slowly reeled them back in and took us to the start of the climb to the turnaround point. A couple of riders went around
us and after all the work the General had point in it was time for me to take over. I jumped on the wheel of the 2nd rider and took us up to the turnaround point. Chris Smith took over from there with Justin in Lam just behind. Jonathan had dropped back a little. On the fast descent, it all bunched up and there was around 10 riders. I stayed with the bunch though was to the back. Chris and Justin where sitting around 4th or 5th just off to the right. Jonathan had moved up and was on the left. As we hit around 250m to go, Jonathan attacked left . Around the same time everyone seemed to shift to the right and they missed his attack. He gapped everyone and Chris and Justin sat up. Jonathan crossed the line with a sizeable gap. A fantastic result and a great race by everyone.
