The Tour is almost upon us and as a prelude we are holding the Tour de Lane Cove National Park on Saturday July 7.
This is a club ride for everyone. We hope that everyone from the less experienced rider, who is comfortable in group riding, through to the very experienced rider, will join us. We want ladies to join us. Lots of ladies. And we welcome teen aged children who are comfortable in group riding, though we ask they be accompanied by at least one of their parents.
This is about coming together as a club and to encourage those riders who don't get out regularly but want the chance to ride with other like minded people in a safe, inclusive, supportive and social environment. So park your urge to race to an imaginary line or take the KOM or QOM and ride for pure enjoyment.
The ride will be around 45km long, on bike paths or quieter back streets at a pace that will suit everyone. It will start at Park Bikes at 6.30am and take us to Lane Cove National Park and back again, where we will all have coffee and a chance to catch up with other riders and club members.
If numbers are large, we will split into smaller groups. And we will have a number of experienced riders there to help and support you.
Here is the route we will be taking - https://www.strava.com/routes/13981850
It would be great to see a heap of green out for this all inclusive club ride. No racing just riding.
great initiative Foxy... I look forward to being part of the ride. The route is a good one and will be achievable for all. thanks.
I'll join @paul.doorn and we will lead a slower paced group for this ride.
The Treasurer has stretched those short arms into those very deep pockets of his and found some loose change and so has said he will cover the coffees after this club ride. This is as rare as Halley's comet, so don't miss the opportunity. Well done Tones and Prez.👏
Weather is looking nice... can't wait!!
A reminder that this Saturday we have our special mid winter club ride to Lane Cove National Park. This is replacing our normal Bobbo and Prospect ride for this weekend only. We are encouraging all riders to put aside the need to up the pace, sprint the next segment or to take the next KOM and just take pleasure in riding your bike in a supportive, inclusive and safe environment.
This ride starts at Park Bikes at 6.30am and heads to LCNP along the following route - https://www.strava.com/routes/13981850. We will break into groups, partially for safety reasons, partially to allow riders of similar ability to ride together. We have experienced riders who will lead each group. Each group will ride at a pace and distance that is suitable for that group. If we need to shorten the ride for any group, we will. The ride will return to SOP around 8.30-8.45 for a chat and coffee. The club will buy the coffees.
We would like to have not only club members, but also non-club members, join us. We welcome children, though they need to be accompanied by a parent. And we really want to see as many ladies as possible. Basically this is for anyone interested in a very social ride.
We look forward to seeing you there.
